A SYNOPSIS OF THE RESEARCH SO FAR -

(Read the May 2004 Report on Polio above for the evidence)

During the early 20th century North American epidemics of Infantile Paralysis, a disease then scientifically known as poliomyelitis, or polio for short, the public health authorities were so fixed on the theory that the disease must be caused by a virus, that they ignored medical reports of severe cases of the disease being cured by the use of antitoxins - for if these were true, then the disease must be caused by toxins. They also ignored experiments by top scientists showing the damage that produced paralysis in cases of polio, could be induced in animals by the lead arsenate then used to spray fruit and to wash dairy cows -and by DDT.

Instead the health authorities, while they hunted for fifty years for the very hard-to-find virus that they thought must be responsible, felt they could only advise parents to wash and clean their homes and children. This proved useless to stop the disease. Eventually they named a virus as responsible and developed a vaccine against it. This proved totally ineffective - so they cheated. They redefined 'polio' to try to make it fit the vaccine. Thousands of children were still being paralysed but their parents were told they were not ill with polio - and that there was no cure and no vaccine for them. Today, over 50 years later, this is still the case. There are in the US more cases of what would have been called polio during the earlier epidemics than occured during those epidemics. The shocking truth is that there are cures for polio - it can be cured by the use of anti-toxins and clearing up the enviironment - as scientists showed over sixty years ago. But it seems this is too hard for the medical establishment now to admit.

I fear that there is a parallel with what is now happening with AIDS - under the same medical authorities. They decided in 1988 that it too must be caused by a virus although up until then the disease was thought to be caused by toxins (exactly as happened with polio). Having made this decision, billions of dollars have since been spent searching for the apparently very hard-to-see HIV virus. (still not isolated and photographed as a whole) and to find a vaccine against it.

Investigating Vaccines. By Janine Roberts.

There were few interviews that amazed me more, during my investigation into MMR and the other childhood vaccines, than that with Michael Steward, Professor of Immunology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, London University's leading immunologist, I was talking to him for "The Independent" in 1996. I told him

""Some parents have told me their children fell ill after having MMR with such serious illnesses as meningitis."

I was astonished to receive the response, "What else would you expect?' He then explained,

"We know the vaccines based on living viruses are risky. Why else do you think I head a team of immunologists working on new safer vaccines? ."

Another amazing interview was when I phoned one of the major MMR manufacturers, Merck. They put me in touch with their leading scientist, a man that played a key role in developing the MMR vaccine, Dr Maurice Hilleman. I asked him

"The MMR vaccine is based on the attenuated [weakened] viruses for measles, mumps and rubella. How do you weaken these viruses?"

He explained they did so by transplanting the virus from cell to cell again and again, perhaps some 24 times, until it was sufficiently weakened.

I then asked

"I understand that you must weaken the virus so as to prevent unwanted side-effects such as illness- but you cannot weaken it too far otherwise it will not give sufficient immunity. How do you judge how much to weaken the virus?

He replied

"Exactly, that is the principal issue. The only way to judge this is by experimenting with children."

I then asked "Do you have a guideline for this work?"

He replied "Yes, 20%."

"What do you mean?"

"That only 20% of the vaccinated children fall ill."

When I exclaimed with surprise, he hurried to add "Oh, not seriously ill. They all get better quickly."

If the views of these experts were more widely known, it would create a very different attitude towards vaccination. Many parents are utterly unaware of what leading scientists are saying. It is not helped when a Prime Minister does not give both sides of what is a scientific debate.

Parents are not helped when a government insists that there is no risk - while it at the same time quietly pays out compensation to many parents because their children fell seriously ill after vaccination or even died. It cannot have it both ways. The manufacturers of vaccines do not claim that there are no risks involved in taking their product. They give doctors a list of warnings that notes that in some rare cases serious illnesses might result. No wonder that Tony Blair's UK Government has lost credibility on this issue.

The issue for parents is a balance of risks. They need an honest assessment of the risks. The government needs to acknowledge that there are some risks to taking the "living virus" vaccines as do the manufacturers and leading scientists. Only if it does so, will it be able to regain public confidence and genuinely help parents make up their minds..

. I myself found that whenever I interviewed UK government scientists that specialised on vaccines, I was warned that I should not publicly criticise the vaccines - for "it could put parents off vaccination". It seemed that questioning accepted government policy would be a "heretical" act.

Making an Assessment of the Risks.

A Member of Parliament asked questions at my request after the MR (Measles and Rubella) national campaign in 1996 in the UK. The campaign had injected some 8 million children because of a "claimed" danger of a national measles epidemic. My first question was how many "Yellow-Cards" were sent in by doctors reporting illnesses following vaccination that they suspected could have been caused by the vaccine. The answer was that there were over 2,500 yellow-cards sent in - of which over 500 cases were of serious illnesses requiring hospitalisation. My next question was "What was the Government's estimate for the number of cases of measles prevented by the vaccination campaign?" The answer came back that it estimated between 180-190 case of measles were prevented! This was an estimate for measles - of which only a few, less than one in ten, would have been serious. So the vaccine had seemingly caused nearly 30 times more cases of serious illness than it had prevented. This was simply gross medical incompetence.

AUTISM, CHRONIC BOWEL SYNDROME

and SINGLE VACCINE JABS

There is currently much public pressure to relieve the pressure on a child's immune system by separating out the elements of the MMR vaccine and giving the measles, mumps and rubella vaccines as separate jabs administer several days apart. There is said to be a great shortage of single vaccine jabs - although it could be relatively simple to provide them if the government was willing. (The MMR vaccine is stored as three separate vaccines that are only combined near the time of use.)

Separate administration puts less stress on the child - but it does not remove all risk. These vaccines are all "living virus" vaccines. These all entail a risk even if it is small. When living viruses are injected, there is always a risk that the virus can mutate or even travel around causing unwanted side-effects or even infecting others. By injecting these viruses, we have by-passed many of the body's natural defences. The vaccine manufacturers warn that children should not be injected at a time when their immune system is weakened by even a cold or flu. The Professor I mentioned above, Michael Steward at London University, told me he was trying to develop alternative safer vaccines precisely because such vaccines are risky.

When I interviewed some years ago Doctor Andrew Wakefield, the scientist at the centre of the storm over MMR, he had just made his key discoveries. Since then I have followed his work. He has now presented his results at a US Congress Hearing and other scientists have replicated his work. It has also been published in peer-reviewed medical journals. But he did not start out as a vaccine specialist. He is a stomach and guts specialist. He was investigating the epidemic of bowel disease that currently affects many thousands - namely Chrone Disease and Irritable Bowel Syndrome - when he found inside inflamed bowel tissue a virus infestation. He isolated the virus and took it around to other specialists to have it identified. It turned out to be a measles virus.

He was surprised. Wild measles virus is now comparatively rare in the UK - - so how could it be turning up in so many cases?

He knew there was another form of measles virus that was not so rare. It was the type given in the MMR vaccine. This living virus lives on inside the vaccinated - and is passed on from them to others. This form of the measles virus has been weakened ('attenuated") to make it unable to cause measles. But, what if it could cause other diseases? Wakefield wondered if the measles virus in the vaccine was now causing an epidemic of bowel disease?

Since then his research has indicated that there could well also be a link between MMR and autism. This finding is still highly controversial. Some labs claim they cannot replicate his findings, but other labs have confirmed the presence of measles virus.

Dr.Wakefield's latest paper was co-authored by Professor John O'Leary and published in the Journal of Molecular Pathology. It reported finding the DNA of the measles virus in the guts of 75 out of 91 children with bowel disease, compared to in only 5 of the 44 control subjects. Dr.Wakefield said in a later interview "We were responding to the concern of parents - several thousand parents saw their children develop problems, they felt, after having the vaccine - we think their fears have been substantiated ... The study was designed to detect the measles virus and whether it was present in the diseased intestinal tissue of children with inflammatory bowel disorder. There was a highly significant difference in the rate of measles in these children compared to the control group. The only exposure these children have had to the measles virus was in the vaccine.

On the face of it, this means that having a jab of the measles vaccine by itself puts the child at risk - for it is the measles virus, not the mumps or rubella viruses, that is found in damaged bowel tissue. Thus a parent should perhaps avoid this vaccine completely - either as a single jab or as part of MMR. This seemed also to be the opinion of Dr Wakefield at the time when I interviewed him.

However he has moved on somewhat since then - in order to explain why the incidence of autism rose sharply when MMR was introduced in 1988 - many years after the introduction of the single measles jab.

When he was asked if the single measles vaccine might cause the bowel disease just as much as MMR, he relied;"T theoretically yes, however the trend in the dramatic rise of autism in developed countries since MMR was introduced [1988 in the UK] raises concerns that the combination [of 3 vaccines] might make the measles component behave differently" (The Independent, 8 February 2002). He was concerned that receiving three different lots of viruses, measles, mumps and rubella, in a single jab, might make the measles virus even more dangerous.

At the moment his research only shows that measles virus seemingly flourishes in cases of bowel disease. It does not show why this happens - and it leaves unclear the relationship between bowel disease and autism. Viruses are also attracted to toxically damaged tissues - so toxins might also play a key role. It could also be that the virus helps weaken the walls of the gut; letting toxins into the body which in turn might cause autism.

Another scientist has pointed out that 70% of autism cases are in boys - yet boys and girls are equally exposed to the measles virus. He suggested a genetic cause might be involved - but, if true, this does not exclude the measles virus. Diseases can be caused by a cocktail of different elements working together disastrously

If there is any suspected risk in taking the current vaccines, then I believe it is most important that the government urgently invests in developing safer vaccines or in alternative ways of treating illnesses than it invests billions in military hardware. I believe the risk to our children from unsafe vaccines is in reality much greater than that currently posed by terrorism.

IMPORTANT! PLEASE NOTE.

If you suspect your child may have become ill due to vaccination - please use the online Suspect Adverse Reaction database on the JABS website to report whatever facts you wish to make public. All the data entered will automatically become a public resource. Hopefully over time it will become a valuable international resource. It was started in July 2000. It has its own vaccination chat room and a link to the JABS support group. On the Jabs website there is analysis of figures for some vaccine side effects.

An excellent article on MMR can be found on the Jabs website, written by the woman who inspired the JABS group, Jackie Fletcher. It is very factual and straightforward. It gives more details on how the US and UK governments have paid large sums in compensation to many parents because of suspected vaccine damage - including deaths - so why now are the authorities acting as if MMR is entirely safe?
